It has been reported that North Korea’s State Security Department is eavesdropping on residents’ conversations through their landline phones. A family in Yanggang Province discovered a suspicious device on the receiver of their home phone, revealing that the authorities have been listening to their private conversations. In response, many households have begun dismantling their landline phones to remove the wiretaps or have even requested to cancel their phone services altogether. Friends who once planned to visit now avoid homes with phones, and neighbors quickly leave without sharing anything personal.
Yet despite such intense surveillance, we pray that the ministry of the gospel will not shrink back, but rather thrive more and more across North Korea, until the entire land is filled with the Kingdom of God.
“And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, ‘Then who can be saved?’ Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.’”
Mark 10:26–27
We lift up North Korea in prayer with this Word. Even though the regime oppresses its people with strict surveillance, we praise God, who spreads His Word and saves those who hear it. As phone calls are monitored and people suffer extreme economic hardship, we confess that what they need most is the gospel.
Lord, please strengthen the ministry of underground believers who proclaim the gospel inside North Korea, and the mission workers who deliver Your Word into the country. May their efforts not be hindered by the government’s wiretapping and obstruction, but grow ever more fruitful so that all of North Korea may return to You.
In Jesus name we pray, amen.
