“North Korea’s coercive control over its people begins with a detailed investigation through its resident registration system. To scrutinize the people's ideology and detect counterrevolutionary elements, North Korea has conducted a comprehensive background check on all residents since 1969. The population is classified into three classes and 51 categories. They have developed a registration system that includes information on direct relatives up to three generations, and even in-laws and extended family up to six degrees. North Korea’s resident registration system is a rigid, unprecedented system that thoroughly records a citizen’s class background, political and social activity, life history from past to present, and any changes within the family and relatives,” states a report from our Mission Research Institute. We lift up the people of North Korea in prayer, who are suffering under relentless surveillance and control.
“Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.”
John 17:11–12
We lift up North Korea, which has enforced a complex and meticulous system of citizen surveillance for many decades, in prayer through this Word. North Korean leaders monitor and control their people to maintain the regime and secure loyalty and obedience. But Jesus entrusted His people to the Father in prayer and bore the cross of service and sacrifice to protect and care for them. May all North Koreans come to know and serve this God. May they become a blessed people who come to the Lord and receive salvation.
In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
