According to the 2024 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices released by the U.S. Department of State, North Korea continues to maintain its rule through violence and oppression, including public executions, torture, unlawful detention, forced labor, and restrictions on freedom of religion, expression, and press, as well as the practice of punishing entire families. There are currently five political prison camps, with an estimated 80,000 to 200,000 detainees. Within these facilities, beatings, electric torture, water torture, and sexual violence occur routinely, and many die due to torture, disease, starvation, and harsh conditions. We pray that believers imprisoned in these camps will be set free, that the truth of the gospel will spread throughout the land, and that true freedom and hope will come quickly.
“Therefore we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions that you are enduring. This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering—since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us...”
2 Thessalonians 1:4–7
We lift up before You the believers in the North who are imprisoned. We praise You, God, who keeps their faith from being shaken and instead makes it stronger even under severe persecution. May Your promise and saving grace be their living hope, and may they endure with patience, looking to Your justice that brings rest to the afflicted. Lord, let the captives be set free, and may the day of gospel revival in North Korea come quickly.
In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
