[Prayer] May the 3,089 churches destroyed in North Korea be rebuilt

A view of holding in two hands a church built on the soil contained within two soil-covered hands

In 1958, marking the 10th anniversary of the regime’s establishment, the North Korean regime launched a massive ideological purge and a survey of residents’ social backgrounds, thereby fully implementing its policy of eradicating religion. As a result, all religious activities within North Korea were banned, and 3,089 churches were forcibly closed. During this process, most church workers, including pastors and elders, were executed, and believers who sought to hold fast to their faith were purged and forcibly exiled to remote mountainous regions such as Ryanggang Province and North Hamgyong Province.

"Thus says the Lord: “In a time of favor I have answered you, in a day of salvation I have helped you; I will keep you and give you as a covenant to the people, to establish the land, to apportion the desolate heritages,"

Isaiah 49:8

I proclaim this in the name and authority of God, as promised in this Scripture. May the 3,089 churches that existed in North Korea before the division but were closed and destroyed due to the oppression of the communist regime be rebuilt. May churches be established in each of North Korea’s 4,777 towns, and may they overflow with people worshiping God. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
