[Prayer] May the hardships of life become an opportunity to seek and rely on God

North Korean Soldiers

Amidst Kim Jong-un’s nuclear ambitions, 1.28 million North Korean soldiers are suffering from severe human rights violations. Their monthly pay is barely enough for a pack of cigarettes, and forced labor, such as construction work, is a daily reality. With side dishes consisting only of "salted radish," malnutrition and death by starvation are frequent. Starving soldiers are driven to commit thefts against civilians and embezzle military supplies. Moreover, systemic corruption involving bribery and sexual exploitation for professional advancement is widespread.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling,”

Psalm 46:1–3

O God, our eternal refuge and help, we lift up the desperate lives of North Korean soldiers who are forced to resort to theft and crime just to survive in harsh conditions marked by starvation and forced labor. May their groans of suffering become prayers seeking God, and may the fiery trials become an opportunity to discover faith that relies on God. Please break the yoke of oppression and grant them the grace to enjoy the blessing of worshiping God.

In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen!
