“The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea takes the great Kim Il-sung-Kim Jong-il ideology as the sole guiding principle for state-building and activities … The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea strengthens the people’s regime in the northern half, vigorously carrying out the three revolutions of ideology, technology, and culture to achieve the complete victory of socialism … and conducts all activities under the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea.” This is a portion of Chapter 1 of the North Korean Constitution. The political provisions in the North Korean Constitution, which enshrine the leadership of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il, the strengthening of the people’s regime in the northern half, the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea, and the declaration of the people’s democratic dictatorship, must be nullified to remove obstacles to the unification of South and North Korea.
“…as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.”
Ephesians 1:10
we proclaim that the political domain of Chapter 1 of the North Korean Constitution be transformed. North Korea’s provision that “takes the Kim Il-sung-Kim Jong-il ideology as the sole guiding principle for state-building and activities” denies the establishment of gospel-based unification between South and North Korea. The provision that “conducts all activities under the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea” acknowledges only the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea, excluding South-North unity. The phrase “adhering to the class line and strengthening the people’s democratic dictatorship” undermines equality and freedom, and the phrase “the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea strengthens the people’s regime in the northern half” recognizes only North Korea. May the effect of all these provisions be suspended, preparing the way for gospel-based unification in the political realm.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
