North Korean rulers remain unmoved even though over three million people starve to death and families are torn apart by over three decades of severe economic hardship, and children wander the streets in suffering, all for the sake of preserving the regime’s dictatorial power. Instead, they pour astronomical sums into strengthening nuclear weapons to maintain their regime. Such suffering forces people to develop their own ways of survival, bringing about various forms of change. We must also prepare and pray so that these movements become opportunities for the gospel to reach North Korea.

"At that time his voice shook the earth; but now he has promised, ‘Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.’ Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe."

Hebrews 12:26–28

We lift up the many changes currently unfolding in North Korea in prayer. May the evolving marketplace economy, born through the growing jangmadang (informal markets), become an unstoppable channel for the Gospel. May the evolving marketplace economy, born through the growing jangmadang (informal markets), become an unstoppable opportunity for the spread of the gospel. May the spread of the Korean Wave among North Korean youth shake the rigid system and open doors for the Word of God to reach them. Have mercy on the North Korean soldiers who were dispatched to fight in Russia's invasion of Ukraine for foreign currency earnings and lost their lives there, as well as on their grieving families and may this tragedy become a spark that leads to the collapse of the regime.

We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. Photo: Parents weeping beside portraits of North Korean soldiers who died after being deployed to fight in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
