“God, please don’t let Christians in South Korea die from COVID-19. If a soul saved by You is more precious than the whole universe, then if they die, who will pray for us or set us free?” This was a desperate prayer of a North Korean believer during the pandemic. Friends, even if you’ve already been praying for North Korea, I ask you now, please pray for the underground church and the suffering people there like Moses and Esther did. This is the heartfelt plea of Jung Yuna, a North Korean defector who spoke at the 71st conference in a session titled “My God Whom I Met During My Escape from North Korea.”
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.”
(Isaiah 43:1–2)
Let us lift up North Koreans living under severe oppression of freedom and human rights and underground believers continuing to seek God at the risk of martyrdom with the promise from Isaiah 43:1–2. Lord, may the 20 million North Koreans come to know You and be saved. Raise up the 35,000 North Korean defectors in the South as special gospel agents who will bring the Good News back to the North. Please be with them and let North Korea be restored through the gospel, and may Your Kingdom come there.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
