“Please pray for these twenty-seven believers. Until today, I have been able to kneel and pray, holding onto my faith, but I cannot be sure that I will still do so tomorrow. Pray for us that we may keep our faith even unto death.
During the early days of ministry, a list of twenty-seven underground North Korean believers was given to a Korean-Chinese missionary who had brought Bibles into North Korea. Along with the list came a desperate request—to pray that they might keep their faith even in martyrdom. Today, we lift up this earnest confession of North Korean believers, who long not for the preservation of life but for the perseverance of faith, into the hands of God.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”
2 Timothy 4:7–8
Lord, may the underground believers in North Korea, who fight the good fight and keep their faith even under persecution, overcome all suffering and stand victorious. Help them complete their race of faith as they fix their eyes on You, the righteous Judge, who will grant them the Life as the Crown. Let their faith be handed down to generations to come, and shield them as they gather to worship You.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
