North Korean Soldiers

At the entrance to the general market in Kaechon, South Pyongan Province, North Korea, graffiti written in white paint was found: “It’s suffocating, I can’t live like this.” According to Daily NK, the municipal Security Bureau is frantically investigated, checking the handwriting of market vendors as well as passersby to identify the writer. Residents responded, “With prices and exchange rates soaring daily, and life tightening around our necks at every moment, we don’t know how to survive—but whoever wrote this, we feel so relieved.”

“For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I am the one who helps you.’ Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel! I am the one who helps you, declares the LORD; your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.”

Isaiah 41:13–14

Lord, we lift up before You the people crying out that they cannot live in such despair. Grant that the North Korean people come to know the God who redeems and helps them. Let the gospel reach their ears, and by faith may they overcome this painful world and live in Your victory. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
