[Prayer] May the Conflict Between the Ruling and the Ruled Classes in North Korea Be Resolved

In North Korea, a rigid class society based on family background, the ruling elite—including the Kim family and high-ranking officials—mostly reside in Pyongyang and enjoy privileges in appointments to party, government, and military positions, as well as in education, promotion, distribution, housing, and medical care. On the other hand, citizens classified as part of the hostile class are marginalized from society and suffer severe human rights violations. They are fundamentally denied the right to attend university, join the party, or become military officers. Those who are considered special targets of dictatorship are subjected to forced labor in mountainous or mining regions, and face restrictions in marriage and childbirth. Consequently, during any future period of transformation or reunification, the suppressed anger of the ruled class toward the ruling elite could erupt uncontrollably. Prayer is needed so that this issue does not escalate into violent conflict and bloodshed.

God of love who has given us this word, we repent on behalf of the ruling class in North Korea, who have violated the God-given dignity of human beings by unilaterally condemning people as a hostile class based on ideology and passing this down to their children. We ask that, in the process of North Korea’s transformation and restoration, the long-suppressed anger of the oppressed and marginalized class would be healed within Your love. And may true reconciliation come through the sincere repentance and request for forgiveness from the ruling class toward those they have oppressed.
