“Because North Korea is a society where basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter are not met, a massive refugee crisis could arise in the event of a collapse or disaster, with a large influx of North Korean residents moving south. Even when the North recovers and free travel becomes possible, there is still the possibility of people flocking to the South as refugees. According to the Korea Development Institute (KDI), in the event of a sudden change in North Korea, an average of 72 billion USD (approx. 102 trillion KRW) per year would be needed over 30 years, and in the case of gradual reunification, about 10 billion USD (approx. 14 trillion KRW) per year. Therefore, the Korean Church must be spiritually and physically prepared to receive refugees in times of crisis and continue praying for the restoration of North Korea.”
— From a summary by our Mission Research Institute.
We pray that God’s grace would fill every step of reunification preparation, so that North Korean believers may glorify God and that both North and South may be restored.
“ And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency[e] in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. By their approval of this service, they[f] will glorify God because of your submission that comes from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you.”
2 Corinthians 9:8, 13–14
O Lord who gave us this Word, may North Korean believers glorify You through the devotion of South Korean believers who have been preparing for the day the doors of North Korea open. Let them also pray for the South in return. By the surpassing grace You have poured upon both North and South, lead the two Koreas—separated for over 70 years—into true unity. On the day when reunification through the gospel is fulfilled, may South Korean believers be abundantly equipped—spiritually and physically—to carry out every good work that pleases You for the restoration of the desolate North. Pour out Your overflowing grace.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
